The myths of old tell of a celestial who once saw the moon reflected onto the night sky. The serenity captivated the celestial's heart and a single tear dropped into the ocean. As the teardrop descended to the seafloor, it slowly formed into a wondrous pearl. The pearl's radiance soon attracted the attention of many and soon a temple and city were built around it. The Keeper of the Temple, Mocha Ray Cookie, has kept vigil since the very beginning. Despite the soft smile and enchanting mocha aroma, no one has been truly able to peer into the Keeper's thoughts and intentions. The reclusive Mocha Ray Cookie rarely leaves the temple grounds, but whenever doing so, riding atop a Great Stingray is the preferred method of travel. The Keeper's beliefs had never wavered, that is, until the Sacred Pearl began to freeze...What happened in Mocha Ray Cookie's mind at such a sight?

Mocha Ray Cookie is an Epic-tier cookie, revealed in the premiere for Season 5's release, and released as a playable cookie on August 17, 2020. She is described as a priestess of Sugarteara and Sea Fairy Cookie, and a highly-held one at that, having been in the role as long as the city of Sugarteara itself existed. Not much is known about Mocha Ray's past, or about her in general, a habit of keeping to herself leading to a mysterious and even intimidating disposition. She is also highly, highly religious, and loyal to the city and her own role within it to a point where it could be considered strange and noticable to others. This is used to the other guardian of Sugarteara's advantage -- part of Lobster Cookie's ill-intented plan to restore a dying Sugarteara was to dupe other cookies into believing her as evil and wanting control of the city to herself. However, this goes quickly awry, and ended in a fight between the two guardians, and Sugarteara's physical collapse, and Mocha Ray Cookie left to roam the vast blanks of the sea in search of Lobster Cookie, with hopes as to their reformation.

This story was continued three years later with the beginning of Season 8's story, the Living Deep Sea City. With the two reunited, and while still muddying the specifics alongside each other, with their common goal of rebuilding the city of Sugarteara, they stumble upon another wonderous city -- Wandercrab, built upon a giant mechanical hermit crab, and made almost entirely out of trash and debris. They're welcomed with open arms, and with only one rule to follow -- "Don't bring up the past." -- but to two cookies stuck to a nostalgic past, and to Mocha Ray Cookie's eyes keen enough to regonize a certain stand-offish cookie as familiar, perhaps all was never to remain well. Mocha Ray Cookie's prying into the exact past warned to not care about anymore leads to her idealistic, if not sheltered view of Sugarteara nearly becoming shattered if not for her already high hopes for a new beginning of the city, and after witnessing severe damage to Wandercrab from an underwater volcano's explosion or two, the two set off from the city of Wandercrab, still aiming for a rebirth of Sugarteara.

Hey, what does any of that mean?

While I used to have a written explanation of her plot here, I find that the analysis of it is better suited for the other page that goes more analytical on her character. However, her story is documented within the two events she was a part of, and you may watch them here. They are, all together, about sixty minutes in length. Go watch them. I promise they're cooler than you think. Please look at my wife.

Ok, but what about the actual game? What's her issue in there?

Mocha Ray Cookie's main ability in Ovenbreak is one of compassion -- and other seathings. Starting off with sailing on a very large manta ray, in-between that is other sea creatures that offer little point-jellies and extra health potions. Y'know, as a little treat for such a great guardian or something. With a Magic Candy upgrade, the electrical powers mostly harnessed in the story also come to play -- another timed-ability comes through, zapping objects for more points. She's a rather simple character to play with a simple ability compared to many other cookies over the years of the game's monthly release scheldule. Maybe my wife is a little mundane, y'know, as a treat and a break from her important duties. However, I will not pass up any opprotunity to play as her, keep her in the lobby, ect. ect.. I've been on her trial's leaderboard in the Top 100th places at least three times in the past, and I do check occasionally and play that trial often, not even to secure that position, but just to see her.

Anything else?

There's a few extra things I would like to note about, mostly involving content involving her that is outside the scope of the game itself, as well as a few other things.

The Bake My Day short was released shortly after Mocha Ray Cookie was released as a playable Cookie, and mostly details the fact that she was the one who gifted Lobster Cookie their prosthetic arm. Also, a mere glimpse into the feelings and period of isolation and soul-searching, both for herself and for Lobster Cookie, after Sugarteara's physical crumbling.

This was released as a trailer for the Living Deep Sea City update itself, which is most notable for giving Mocha Ray Cookie actual voice acting -- this is not standard for Ovenbreak at all, and even I found it a shocker when I discovered the video...about eight months late. Whoops. The first part is portrayed before the abandonment of Sugarteara, with Mocha Ray Cookie and someone else (now known as Octopus/Ink Cloak/Abyss Monarch Cookie). It also gives an actual stated (publicly acceptable for the other cookies to know at least) reason for the initial abandonment of Sugarteara -- the erosion of coral reefs around the city, which affected the progression of the Sacred Pearl's darkening, and (previously known as) Octopus Cookie walking out of their own role to prevent such, practically dooming the city in Mocha Ray Cookie's viewpoint (even if it was, in all means, doomed to fail and collaspe from the start, however I have a feeling she was left in the dark about this for obvious reasons).

The second part is much, much after this event -- with Mocha Ray's resting on the back of the Great Ray being interrupted by the falling of a piece of debris. She asks, of all people to be revealed by her side at this point, a reunited Lobster Cookie (with a new Omniously Evil And Red Crystal Arm to boot) what was occuring at the time. The camera pans over to the two of them facing Wandercrab -- the falling of a tin can was only the start of it.

At the time this released, I was not actively playing or very much caring at all about Cookie Run as a series. However, now that I return to it, I can say that the story's continuation, while having some major flaws here or there, is nothing short of beautiful, and I am very glad Mocha Ray Cookie's plotline was continued from being seemingly abandoned in 2020.

There is also additional content involving the voice actor of Mocha Ray Cookie -- this is just a simple reading-off of her in-game description, but I cannot reinstate enough that her voice is nothing short of fitting, beautiful, and otherwise. It really does feel like she has some sort of divine connection even through the way she speaks...

Speaking of, the video also uses an obtainable alternative outfit she has, which is detailed below.

The stingrays have been chosen as guardians of the sacred treasures of Sugarteara. As Mocha Ray Cookie is known to harbor the most profound devotion to the city, the Cookie was assigned to safeguard the Sacred Pearl. Mocha Ray Cookie ensures the pearl remains untarnished and beautiful.

The Sugartearan Sacred Guardian costume was released in the first half of the Living Deep Sea City update, and is implied to be a peak into the past when Mocha Ray Cookie was just taken in as the guardian for the temple. It features a much different outfit for her, but still similar in sillohute, and more interesting to me, a sharper jewel on top of her headpiece. Her quotes are also changed to reflect this state of her life when she was less normalized to her position.

I attempt to go into much more detail about Mocha Ray Cookie's character and characterization on this page, if you so desire to read it.
